About Us
A Guy, a Girl, and a Bottle, hosted by Joe and Pam Carpenter, is an internet radio show for people interested in hearing an innovative wine podcast from in and around Silicon Valley. Recording on location, we visit and review both the wineries as well as the wines in Northern California’s Bay Area and beyond. The goal of our show is to explore the wine culture and report on it from an amateur’s perspective. We feel that there are many wineries that are often overlooked as travel destinations, and more people would visit them, if they only had more information to go on. Everyone seeks to have some amount of exclusivity in their lives, or in their wine cellars. Often wines are recommended by close friends, family, and our listeners. Our goal is to help the average person understand wines, and perhaps find that exclusive wine or winery that no one had heard of. Podcasting from the wineries allows us to take the listener along on our journey as we visit wineries and taste their wares.
The general format of our show we record our thoughts and insights on a digital recorder on location at the winery, add some independent music, and release the episode. Each episode features a different winery and a few wines that they produce. We always try to interview the wine maker, and highlight other interesting aspects of the wine/winery that we feel our audience may find appealing. In addition to posting the podcast, we also take a few photographs and post these photos, along with comments, links to the winery, and other information, on our blog (www.gngnb.com).

The “Girl”: I’m Pam and I’ve been working in the biotech industry in Quality Assurance for nearly 20 years, I wouldn’t exactly call it a career but mostly a way to earn money to fund living and having fun with my family. I grew up in San Jose the home of Silicon Valley so I’ve been through most of the ups and downs of this farm town/birthplace of computer technology. Some of the fun stuff I like to do is running, causing trouble, mountain biking, cooking and eating good food, reading books, and of course drinking wine. How I got involved with podcasting about wine is the fault of my husband “The Guy”, he lost the previous “Girl” Lori to workforce, and some how convinced me to take of the roll as the girl. I’m still not exactly sure how I ended up doing this but I’m willing to bet it involved a bottle of wine.
Joe began his career in an unorthodox manner, by enlisting in the US Navy. Ever the inquisitive one, he studied Nuclear Engineering and his 6 years in the Navy was highlighted by his participation in Desert Storm. Afterwards, Joe obtained his Degree from San Jose State University, and began a 6-year stint for a local technology company. Always pushing the envelope, Joe worked his way from a Project Engineer to Business Development & Implementation Specialist where he launched several important initiatives. Joe’s interest in Wine stems from his proximity to the Wine Country of California and a desire to explore technology has led to the creation of his production company, Arleigh Joe Productions. ‘A Guy, a Girl, and a Bottle’ wine podcast is the first of several shows to be produced by his company. Joe is married to ‘The Girl’, has 1 child, 2 cats, and a hyper Border Collie named Ladybug and lives in San Jose, CA.
